Outlook, and I mean the old, trusty (nah), desktop program, is the perfect example of how to not build an email client.
Now and then (not very often) I decide to give the damned thing yet another chance. Not because I need to, but because I am curious if I'll manage to like it this time. Maybe the last update fixed a thing or two?
And every time I run away in disgust.
Bloated menus with hundreds of options nobody uses.
Slow.
Unintuitive contact list management (which you cannot even smoothly integrate with Windows 7 own contact list).
God damnit, Microsoft, what I need is a lean and clean mail-management application that stays out of my feet as much as possible, has stellar search, starts in a blink of an eye and doesn't try to play smart offering me a button to forward a mail to my manager (whoever he is, I guess Outlook knows better).
Something like, I don't know, Mac OS X Mail?
And some folks even find Mail too much of a hassle. But at least Mail does what it's name implies it does and does it more than well.
Take notes, Microsoft, the shortcut is Ctrl-5 in Outlook, I used Google to find this out.
This is a completely random rant, but c'mon, Outlook is such an easy target. And it's Friday.
Also, I don't mention Gmail here, although I use it all the time. Only, most of the time I only use it as a back-end for the Mail app and not via the browser.
And third, I haven't have the chance to try Outlook.com yet. I am sure it does better.
